Palin's Former Wasilla Church Damaged in Fire

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- Gov. Sarah Palin's home church has been badly damaged in a suspicious fire.

Larry Kroon, pastor of the Wasilla Bible Church, estimates damages at more than $1 million to the church.

Kroon declined to say if the blaze was politically based or directed at Palin, the failed Republican vice presidential candidate.

Kroon says the fire broke out Friday night while a small group of women were working on crafts. They were alerted to the blaze by a fire alarm.

Kroon says he was called and by the time he got to the church, smoke was pouring out of the building. Sprinklers kept the fire from spreading beyond offices and classrooms.

Authorities are not immediately commenting, but Kroon says he's been told the fire is being investigated as a crime.

Terrorism Right in Your Backyard

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota - Last month, 17-year-old Burhan Hassan told his family he was catching a ride to school with a friend. He then vanished.

is mother spoke to her son just a few days ago over the phone. To her shock, she says, he told her he was no longer in the United States.

"Mom, I'm in Somalia! Don't worry about me; I'm OK," the mother quoted her son as saying.

Details of how he got there and what has transpired in his life since his November disappearance are sketchy. His mother, who agreed to be identified only as Amina, says her son has clearly changed.

"He was different," she said of his attitude on the phone.

Hassan is one of more than a dozen young men of Somali descent -- many U.S. citizens -- to have disappeared from Minneapolis over the past six months, according to federal law enforcement authorities. Authorities say young men have also disappeared in Boston, Massachusetts; Portland, Maine; and Columbus, Ohio.

"A number of young Somali men have traveled from throughout the United States to include Minneapolis to Somalia, potentially to fight," said FBI Special Agent E.K. Wilson.

Amina speaks about her son in the past tense, almost as if he were dead. She worries about him night and day.

"Now that he's gone, I can't sleep," she said......

Gov. Paterson Probably on Eggshells for Appointment

I'm sure am not the only thinking that New York governor David Paterson is being extremely careful when it comes to filling the senate seat in his state? If I were him, I would record, videotape and document every single meeting till that seat is filled. He sure does not want to end up like Blago now does he?

ALBANY, N.Y. - The corruption scandal engulfing Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich puts a spotlight on the nation's only other vacant Senate seat _ that of Hillary Rodham Clinton in New York.

New York Gov. David Paterson, who will choose Clinton's replacement, can expect more intense scrutiny after Blagojevich's arrest on charges that he tried to sell the seat vacated by President-elect Barack Obama.

The day Blagojevich was arrested, Paterson spokesman Errol Cockfield said the New York governor would "take any necessary steps to ensure that the selection of a new senator is not compromised in any way."

But Cockfield did not identify any specific additional safeguards. A day later, Paterson said his process was unchanged: He's looking for someone with integrity, with ideas to move the state, and a hard worker.

But in addition to a candidate's qualifications, Paterson's choice also needs to serve his own political and fundraising needs _ both now and when he seeks election on the same 2010 ticket as the next senator.

Paterson needs a strong candidate who can raise plenty of money and attract important voting blocs in his quest to be elected to the job he fell into in March, when Eliot Spitzer resigned after it was revealed that he patronized a high-priced prostitution ring.

"This is a country with a two-party system, and politics will play a significant role" in Paterson's decision, said Karl Sleight, former prosecutor and head of the New York Ethics Commission under Republican and Democratic governors. "Unlike any other job, you have to take that into consideration."

So what should potential senators do to seek the job? Not a thing, Paterson said, other than demonstrating their qualifications.

The governor said he would not accept any "attempts at undue influence or anything that would in any way impinge upon the process."

He spoke Wednesday at a fundraiser in Manhattan, where he had just collected a reported $3 million for his 2010 campaign.

It's impossible to know if some potential senator tried to curry favor with the governor by purchasing a $5,000 ticket to attend the gala because Paterson isn't required to release the names of attendees until January.

Neither Paterson nor the state Democratic Party would talk Thursday about Senate hopefuls or the fundraiser.

And neither of two potential senators _ New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo and Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg _ attended the fundraiser.

New York Republican Party coordinator Henry Wojtaszek has already complained that the selection process has not been transparent. He would like to see Paterson identify possible candidates and have a public review of their qualifications.

"Stop playing footsie with the Kennedy and Cuomo clans and instead announce an open and transparent process that will publicly identify potential candidates," Wojtaszek said. "We have already seen what happens in Illinois."

What Will They do After the Electoral College is Done With This?

Please, those against Barack Obama and the birth certificate issue please call it quits. This is a losing battle. What will you do after the electoral college convenes and gives Obama the electoral votes and finishes this once and for all?

When has any other incoming president had so much scrutiny over his birth. Has any American ever seen any president's original birth certificate? No, that is the FEC and the electoral college's job. Why don't we let them do it.

Here is another wacko video for the electors:

Newt Gingrich to Help Rep. Cao Communicate With Black People

Earlier this week, the Times-Picayune profiled the district’s new congressman Joseph Cao (R-LA), who beat out the indicted Democratic incumbent William Jefferson. As the first Vietnamese-American in Congress — and the only non-Hispanic minority in the GOP caucus — Cao is generating considerable excitement within his party for being able to capture a Democratic district.

Before his victory, almost no Republicans were paying attention to Cao. None of the Republicans in Louisiana’s congressional delegation donated to his race. “They just ignored me,” said Cao. “The message was, ‘Why waste our time?’”

Now, however, he is a conservative hero. On Sunday, House Minority Leader John Boehner issued a memo titled, “The future is Cao.” Boehner wrote that the “Cao victory is a symbol of what can be achieved when we think big, present a positive alternative and win the trust of the American people.” Even former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has offered his services. According to a Times-Picayune report earlier this week, Gingrich has volunteered to be Cao’s liaison to the African-American community:

South Carolina Shoots Down Religious Bumper Sticker

I am a Christian, and I am glad the state of South Carolina shot down a measure authorizing the special plates that was passed unanimously by both houses of the legislature, with the active support of Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer and Rep. Bill Sandifer.

This is a country that was founded on Christian beliefs, but has become a melting pot of all faiths. Religion does not belong in government period. It only stirs up trouble. If you make a Christian plate, why not a Muslim one? What about those wacky Scientology people or even Satan worshipers?

We keep it separate so conflict does not arise. You see what goes on in other countries where religion is invoked in government, it's not pretty.

What's the Big Deal About Blair House?

Alright guys, why is this a story? It's common knowledge that the incoming president does not move in the Blair House until five days before the inauguration. That would be January 15th not the 5th which is what the Obama's inquired about so their daughters can start at Sidwell Friends School.

Huffpo and other sites seem to be blowing this story way out of proportion. The Bush's are not snubbing the Obama's or anything. We have a war, corruption, a bad economy, starvation and riots going on all over the world, and this is what some sites choose to make a big deal out of?

Stop whining about everything, and cut the lame duck some slack.

Serbia to Blagojevich "You are Welcomed Here"

By JOVANA GEC | Associated Press Writer

BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — The case of Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich is not just making headlines in America. It is also top news in Serbia, the country of Blagojevich's ancestors.

Pictures of Blagojevich have been dotting the main pages of Serbian newspapers since the FBI accused him of attempting to sell the Senate seat of U.S. President-elect Barack Obama.

"The Governor Defying Entire America," announced a headline Friday in the daily newspaper Blic after Blagojevich refused to step down in the face of mounting pressure.

Illinois has the largest Serbian community in the U.S. Serb newspapers say the Blagojevich family originated in Serbia and moved to the United States after World War II.

Reports about Blagojevich appear prominently on local television stations. State TV's prime-time news Wednesday evening had live coverage from Chicago.

Blic reported this week that the villagers in Velike Krcmare, which it called the home village of the family in central Serbia, refuse to believe that Blagojevich could be guilty.

"We watched the news and could not sleep all night. He must have been framed, it's all politics," Dragan Blagovic, described as a cousin of the governor, was quoted as saying.

Cousin Dragan appeared again in Friday's Blic, saying his famous relative still owns some land in the village so "he can come to Serbia if he cannot take it any more in America."

"He can have a cow or a pig or two, a chicken. ... He is always welcome."

Some Serbs referred jokingly to their own country's record of widespread corruption following decades of Communism and the rule of autocrat Slobodan Milosevic. Serbia wants a closer relationship with the 27-nation European Union, but the bloc has said Serbia must first do something to root out corruption.

A Blic headline this week read "American Corruption the Serbian Way."

"Naturally, a Serb comes up with a scheme to make money," laughed Svetlana Ciric, a 39-year-old book seller in Belgrade. "Only, it doesn't work there like it does here."

Dragan Blagojevich said the governor had never visited the village, but that the family in U.S. sends Easter postcards every year.

In 1999, Blagojevich, the only member of Congress of Serbian extraction, accompanied Rev. Jesse Jackson to Yugoslavia to negotiate the release of three American POWs.

Blagojevich, who turned 52 on Wednesday, is charged with conspiracy and solicitation to commit bribery, punishable by up to 20 years in prison and 10 years, respectively.

Blago's Chief of Staff Resigns

CHICAGO (AP) - The chief of staff to Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich (bluh-GOY'-uh-vich) has resigned, three days after he was arrested on government corruption charges along with his boss.

A Blagojevich spokesman said Friday that John Harris had resigned. He provided no other details.

Blagojevich and Harris were arrested Tuesday morning at their homes. Federal authorities accused them of scheming so Blagojevich could enrich himself through his power to appoint President-elect Barack Obama's replacement in the U.S. Senate.

Both Blagojevich and Harris were released on bond.

Molotov Cocktails Fly as Riots in Greece Continue

(AP) ATHENS -- Greek youths hurled rocks and Molotov cocktails and heavily armed Athens police responded with stun grenades and tear gas Friday, as deep discontent with the government and the global economic meltdown erupted on the country's seventh straight day of riots.

Greece's prime minister rejected calls to resign and hold early elections, insisting Friday that a steady hand was needed in times of financial crisis.

"There should be no confusion between the emotions felt by young students over the tragic death of a colleague .. and this destructive mania," Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis said Friday.

Terrified workers in banks along Athens' central Syntagma Square watched in fear as protesters shattered windows just replaced days ago after being damaged in the worst riots Greece has experienced in decades.

Protesters also smashed their way into the main branch of the National Bank of Greece, sending employees fleeing in panic. One protester walked up to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier outside Parliament and threw a black-and-red anarchist flag at it. Petrol bombs left one policeman covered in flames.

Protesters briefly occupied a private Athens radio station and read a statement on the air and took over a municipal building in the northwestern city of Ioannina.

The riots broke out Saturday within hours of the police shooting death of 15-year-old Alexandros Grigoropoulos, and have since expanded to encompass general anger over economic hardship. Hundreds of stores and dozens of cars have been destroyed or damaged in cities across the country.

"What started as an outburst of rage over Alexandros' killing is now becoming a more organized form of protest," said Petros Constantinou of the Socialist Workers Party.

The violence has hammered Mr. Karamanlis' conservative government, which already faced vociferous opposition to economic and social reforms. Mr. Karamanlis, whose party has only a single-seat majority in parliament, rejected calls for him to resign, saying Friday that Greece needed to focus instead on the global financial crisis.

"That is my concern and the concern and the priority of the government, and not scenarios about elections and successions," Mr. Karamanlis said in Brussels, where he was attending an European Union leaders meeting on climate change.

A spokesman for the opposition Socialists said the government was "refusing to face reality."

Protesters who are occupying high schools and universities are demanding a reversal of public spending cuts, the resignation of the country's interior minister and the release of arrested riot suspects.

About 200 people have been arrested during the riots and 70 injured.

As unrest spilled over into other European cities, concerns have been raised that the clashes could be a trigger for opponents of globalization, disaffected youth and others outraged by the continent's economic turmoil and soaring unemployment.

"Financial targets are being attacked -- like banks -- to prove a point of economic oppression .. some people hardly have enough eat," said Constantinos Sakkas, a 23-year-old protest organizer.

"We're against the attacks on small stores," he added. "The purpose of all this is for our demands to be heard. This just isn't for us. It's for everyone."

Protesters in Spain, Denmark and Italy this week have smashed shop windows, pelted police with bottles and attacked banks, while in France, cars were set ablaze outside the Greek consulate in Bordeaux.

Turkish leftists staged a peaceful protest Friday outside the Greek consulate in Istanbul, carrying a banner reading: "We're saluting the resistance of the Greek people."

"End the police terrorism!" the group chanted before dispersing.

The two police officers involved in the shooting have been jailed pending trial, one for murder and the other as an accomplice. They say they were attacked by a group of youths and that one officer had fired warning shots, but witnesses have disputed the claim.

Their defense lawyer, Alexis Cougias, said ballistics testing of the bullet that killed Mr. Grigoropoulos showed it had ricocheted. The ballistics report has not been released.

Greek police will review their firearms policy, Panayiotis Chinofotis, the deputy minister for Public Order, assured parliament on Friday.

Protestors are planning daily marches in the capital next week.

Jackson Jr. Continues to Defend Himself

CHICAGO (AP) — Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. flatly denies that he and his brother were involved in a scheme to get him a Senate seat in a deal with scandal-tainted Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (bluh-GOY'-uh-vich).

The remarks in an interview with The Associated Press Friday came on the heels of a Chicago Tribune report that cited unidentified sources. The newspaper said businessmen with ties to the governor and congressmen discussed raising $1 million for Blagojevich to get him to appoint Jackson to the Senate. The report depicts Jackson's brother as an active participant.

The congressman said "to an absolute certainty" that his brother was not involved in any scheming or wrongdoing.

Jackson has been identified as "Senate Candidate 5" in a federal complaint. The governor is overheard saying the candidate would raise $500,000 for Blagojevich, and an emissary would raise an additional $1 million.

A Little Advice for Barack

The next time someone connected to you is mentioned in a scandal or investigation of some kind, just tell us everything. It would be highly likely that Rham Emanuel especially or someone in the Obama camp would have had some type of contact with the Governor of Illinois.

This senate seat is highly desirable and anyone appointed to it would receive extra media attention because it would be Barack Obama's former seat. There would be very little chance, that Obama or anyone in his camp would not have some direct or indirect contact.

I honestly could care less if Obama met with Satan himself, just be forthcoming and let me know why and what was said and I'm fine.

I know by living here Chicago is very corrupt, and I know honest and crooked politicians are tied by an undeniable rule to work together here to get anything done. That being said, anyone that comes from that arena would be tied in some way to corruption either by their own doing or indirect contact from an associate.

The less you say, the more others will.

C-Span Would Have Ratings If the Senate Was Like This

Good, Bad News for Palin

There's always a poll out on someone or something, right? Well a NBC/WSJ poll is showing that among republicans Sarah Palin is there queen. She has a huge 73%-13% rating. Sounds great right? Here's the problem.

Her overall rating is a net negative, 35%-45%, which only means she is not liked among democrats and independents.

What exactly does that mean for the GOP? Will her party file behind her to project her as a front runner, or will they put someone out there that can attract some democrats and a lot of independents?

They have a interesting conundrum. If you don't support Palin you run the risk of losing those republicans they favor her, and if you do make her a front runner you run the risk of losing another four years of power.

What will they do. How will they attract that gap of 8 million plus people that put Obama in the White House? How.

Prices for Meth and Coke Heads Have Gone Up

(AFP)The prices of cocaine and methampetamine in the United States have increased significantly over the last 21 months as they decreased in quality, the US anti-drug agency said Thursday.

The price of a gram of cocaine in the US soared 89 percent -- from 96.61 dollars to 182.73 dollars -- from January 2007 to September 2008, said the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in a report.

As authorities clamp down on production and supply routes, drug dealers raise prices to match risk and dwindling supply.

Analyzing 24,000 drug busts across the country, the DEA said cocaine purity dropped during the same period from 67 percent to 46 percent.

To increase profitability suppliers cut potency by mixing it with a wide variety of other substances -- an often dangerous practice.

For methampetamine, the DEA analyzed some 58,000 samples and reported the price of an ounce rose 23 percent, from 184.09 dollars to 148.91 dollars -- as its purity fell during the same timeframe from 57 percent to 52 percent.

"For almost two years the illicit drug market has been showing signs of distress," said DEA Acting Administrator Michele Leonhart.

"These price and purity trends are not just an immediate reaction from a single enforcement operation, but the result of continuous and persistent progress DEA is making in concert with our international and domestic partners," she said.

"Across the United States, Mexico, and Colombia and the transit zones in between, we are crippling the world's leading drug networks."

Fitzgerald Republicans New Frenemy

Now that Patrick Fitzgerald has gone after crooked Blago, who I hope get the book thrown at him, republicans are dumping praise and love on United States Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald.

Think Progress are reminding them however how quickly they have changed their tune after Michelle Makin went on Faux News to say democrats are going to turn on him because of the Blagojveich investigation.

Here are some of the comments that were made about Fitzgerald during his investigation into the Bush White House’s leak of Valerie Plame’s name:

WHITE HOUSE ‘ADVISER’: Fitzgerald’s office, although very professional, has been very aggressive in pursuing people. … These guys are bullies, and they threaten you. [10/9/05]

WHITE HOUSE ‘ALLY’: He’s a vile, detestable, moralistic person with no heart and no conscience who believes he’s been tapped by God to do very important things. [10/24/05]

TUCKER CARLSON: Fitzgerald’s ignorance didn’t prevent him from accusing Libby - falsely and in public - of undermining this country’s security. Fitzgerald should apologize, though of course he never will. When are journalists going to realize that Fitzgerald is their enemy, and the enemy of the public’s right to know what its government is doing? [11/17/05]

BILL KRISTOL: I now think it’s a politically motivated attempt to wound the Bush administration. … He [Fitzgerald] is now out to discredit the Bush administration. [4/9/06]

LAURA INGRAHAM: The person who impeded the process, Sean, in this, in my mind, is, unfortunately, Patrick Fitzgerald. … This investigation should have been shut down, and Patrick Fitzgerald should have gone on his merry way to prosecute other people. [3/6/07]

DAVID BRODER: Like other special prosecutors before him, Fitzgerald got caught up in the excitement of the case and pursued Libby relentlessly, well beyond the time that was reasonable. [6/10/07]

Despite Malkin’s suggestion, there is of course no Democrat seeking to defend Blagojevich. Last night, in fact, the entire Senate Democratic caucus signed a letter to Blagojevich to “insist” he step down as governor “and under no circumstance make an appointment to fill the vacant Illinois Senate seat.”

Things are Great in Iraq.....At Least 55 Killed Today

ROBERT H. REID |Associated Press Writer

BAGHDAD — A suicide bomber killed at least 55 people Thursday in a packed restaurant near the northern city of Kirkuk where Kurdish officials and Arab tribal leaders were trying to reconcile their differences over control of the oil-rich region. The brazen attack _ the deadliest in Iraq in six months _ occurred at a time of rising tension between Kurds and Arabs over oil, political power and Kirkuk.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack at the upscale Abdullah restaurant, which was crowded with families celebrating the end of the four-day Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha. The U.S. blamed the blast on al-Qaida, which uses suicide bombings as its signature attack.

Police Brig. Gen. Sarhad Qadir, who gave the casualty figures, said the dead included at least five women and three children. About 120 people were wounded.

It appeared, however, that the target was a reconciliation meeting between Arab tribal leaders and officials of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, the Kurdish party of Jalal Talabani, on ways to defuse tension among Arabs, Kurds and Turkomen in the Kirkuk area.

Kurds want to annex Kirkuk and surrounding Tamim province into their self-ruled region of northern Iraq. Most Turkomen and Arabs want the province to remain under central government control, fearing the Kurds would discriminate against them.

Iraq's parliament exempted the Kirkuk area from next month's provincial elections because the different ethnic groups could not agree on how to share power.

A guard at the entrance said the blast occurred moments after a man parked his car and walked inside. He was not searched because the guards had not been told to frisk customers, the guard said. He spoke on condition of anonymity because of fears for his own safety.

At the city's main hospital, family members wept and screamed in the blood-smeared corridors as doctors tried to save lives. Many victims were horrifically wounded, and mangled bodies lay unattended on the emergency room floor.

Salam Abdullah, a 45-year-old Kurd, said he was having lunch with his wife when they saw shrapnel flying through the room.

"I held my wife and led her outside the place. As we were leaving, I saw dead bodies soaked with blood and huge destruction," he said. Abdullah was wounded in his head and left hand; his wife suffered head and chest injuries.

"I do not know how a group like al-Qaida claiming to be Islamic plans to attack and kill people on sacred days like Eid," said Awad al-Jubouri, 53, one of the tribal leaders at the luncheon. "We were only meeting to discuss our problems with the Kurds and trying to impose peace among Muslims in Kirkuk."

The attack was the deadliest in Iraq since June 7, when a car bomb killed 63 people in a Shiite neighborhood of Baghdad.

U.S. officials say attacks are down 80 percent nationwide since March, though major bombings still occur. A double truck bombing killed 17 people on Dec. 4 in the former Sunni insurgent stronghold of Fallujah west of Baghdad.

It was unclear what effect Thursday's attack would have on reconciliation efforts in Kirkuk, since the victims included both Arabs and Kurds. Mass attacks against civilians have prompted many Sunnis to turn against the insurgency.

But ethnic competition is intense in Kirkuk and elsewhere in the volatile north, the most ethnically mixed part of the country.

The U.N. mission, which has been trying to defuse tension in Kirkuk, urged community leaders "to demonstrate responsible leadership and to urge restraint by their followers at this difficult time."

In a joint statement, U.S. Ambassador Ryan Crocker and the top U.S. commander Gen. Ray Odierno condemned the bombing and accused al-Qaida of trying to "divide Iraqi communities" and halt the progress toward "a stable, inclusive and tolerant society."

U.S. commanders have long believed that resolving differences among the ethnic communities is the key to defeating the insurgents in the north because al-Qaida and the dozen other Sunni extremist groups there exploit those tensions.

But progress has been difficult because of deep-seated suspicions and conflicting claims on Kirkuk, the center of Iraq's vast northern oil fields which the Kurds have long wanted to bring into their autonomous region.

Kirkuk has been hit by at least 41 suicide attacks since May 2005, according to an Associated Press tally. The deadliest attack occurred July 17, 2007, when a suicide truck bomber struck a Kurdish political office, killing at least 80 and wounding more than 180.

Iraq's constitution provides for a referendum to be held in Kirkuk to determine whether it would be annexed to the Kurdish regional administration. But the vote has been repeatedly postponed because of fears that the balloting would worsen ethnic tension.

At the same time, relations between the Kurds and Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki have worsened because of differences over control of oil resources, Kirkuk and power-sharing.

A draft law to regulate the oil industry has been stalled for nearly two years because the Kurds withdrew their support, maintaining it gave too much control to the national government.

The Kurds also want a bigger say in decision-making within the ruling coalition.

Al-Maliki has accused the Kurds of breaking the law by sending Kurdish troops outside the self-ruled region, ostensibly to protect Kurdish communities in central government territory.

Mugabe Says Cholera Crisis Over......Right

HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) - President Robert Mugabe declared Thursday that there was "no cholera" in Zimbabwe and the country's health crisis was over, even as the United Nations raised the death toll from the epidemic to 783. Cholera has spread rapidly in the southern African nation because of the country's crumbling health care system and he lack of clean water. The U.N. said 16,403 cases have been reported.

Last week, Zimbabwe declared a health emergency because of cholera and the collapse of its health services. South African authorities have declared the cholera-hit border region with Zimbabwe a disaster area as the disease spreads to other countries.

GOP Senator Warns of Riots if Auto Bailout Goes Through

Glad to hear our leaders have confidence in the American people. I guess we are all just a bunch of lawless idiots waiting for the chance to start chaos in the streets, and what would spark that? Not a 700 billion no I'm cool with that, it's that damn 15 billion to those damn auto makers.

Helping the fat cats on Wall Street is cool, they are hardworking honest folks. That haa already been shown to money well spent anyways right? No need to question those CEO's on how they came to the hearings, we know they all rode together in their Chevy Colbalt.

Senator Jim DeMint:

“We’re going to have riots. There are already people rioting because they’re losing their jobs when everybody else is being bailed out. The fairness of it becomes more and more evident as we go along. The auto companies may be hurting,” he said, but “there are very few companies that aren’t hurting and they’re going to hurt. We don’t have enough money to bail everyone out.”

WorldNetDaily the Home for Insanity

Supposedly conservative Christians have shown themselves to be the most insane bunch I have seen in quite sometime. I am not a democrat nor a republican. I am an American who leans to the left but will criticize any wrong on both sides.

What I have seen from WND is what I would expect from a bunch of hateful, spiteful secular enthusiasts, not so called Christians.

Case in point recent article by a regular pundit on the site Pat Boone. You know the name right? A singer/actor whom was popular in the 1950's.

The article he wrote focused on hate in the world. His examples of hate were the attacks in Mumbai India and the recent protest across the United States against proposition 8. From there he made equal the two. Armed terrorists savagely murdering people in the streets of India are equal to protests (although with some violence) in the streets here at home.

I have no problem with free speech, but don't ever refer to me a story in WND as if it were a credible source of news.

Congress Clears the Way For Clinton

WASHINGTON – Hillary Rodham Clinton will earn less money if confirmed as secretary of state than her predecessor, Condoleezza Rice.

That's because Congress has cut her future salary for the Cabinet post by about $4,700 to comply with an obscure clause in the Constitution. Under it, no member of Congress can be appointed to a government job that would provide a pay increase during the lawmaker's current term.

Rice makes $191,300. Congress Wednesday night rolled back the salary that the next secretary of state will get to $186,600, the salary that was in place when Clinton began her current Senate term in January, 2007.

As a senator, Clinton currently makes $169,300.

So we may be corrupt here in Illinois, but we haven't been caught as nearly many times as in other states. Nah!

Congress Aprroves Bailout......Unlikely in Senate

WASHINGTON (AP) — A $14 billion rescue package for the nation's imperiled auto industry sped to approval in the U.S. House Wednesday night, but the emergency bailout was still in jeopardy from Republicans who were setting out roadblocks in the Senate.

Democrats and the Bush White House hoped for a Senate vote as early as Thursday and enactment by week's end. They argued that the loans authorized by the measure were needed to stave off disaster for the auto industry — and a crushing further blow to the reeling national economy.

The legislation, approved 237-170 by the House, would provide money within days to cash-starved General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC. Ford Motor Co., which has said it has enough to stay afloat, would also be eligible for federal aid.

Republicans were preparing a strong fight against the aid plan in the Senate, not only

taking on the Democrats but standing in open revolt against their party's lame-duck president on the measure.

The Republicans want to force the companies into bankruptcy or mandate hefty concessions from autoworkers and creditors as a condition of any federal aid. They also oppose an environmental mandate that House Democrats insisted on including in the measure.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said it represented "tough love" for U.S. auto companies, and "giving a chance — this one more chance — to this great industry."

The White House, struggling to sell the package to congressional Republicans, said earlier that a carmaker bankruptcy could be fatal to the auto industry and have a devastating impact on workers, families and the economy.

"We believe the legislation developed in recent days is an effective and responsible approach to deal with troubled automakers and ensure the necessary restructuring occurs," said Dana Perino, the White House press secretary.

But the measure faces a difficult road in the Senate, where it needs 60 votes to advance. Rank-and-file Senate Republicans skewered the bill during a closed-door luncheon with White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten, who was dispatched to Capitol Hill to make a case for the rescue package.

Besides providing cash for the auto companies, it would create a government "car czar," to be named by President George W. Bush to dole out the loans, with the power to force the carmakers into bankruptcy next spring if they didn't cut quick deals with labor unions, creditors and others to restructure their businesses and become viable.

Behind the scenes, Senate Democratic and Republican leaders scrambled for a deal that would allow votes on the bill on Thursday. Some GOP senators were demanding votes on an alternative that would order the automakers to take specific actions to restructure — including steep wage cuts and debt restructuring — in return for any federal money.

I'm Sure Sen. Vitter Knows All About Ass Backwards

Sen. David Vitter, R-La., promised to filibuster the measure, which could delay a final vote for days.

He said the package has an "ass-backwards" approach to curing what ails the U.S. auto industry -- giving carmakers money immediately, and only later demanding that they restructure.

Update: Jesse Jr. 'Candidate 5' Say it Ain't So

Is there any politician republican or democrat that isn't involved in some type of corruption? Now we here Jesse Jackson Jr. is the candidate number five that U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald mentioned in the press conference yesterday.

I have lived in the city of Chicago for over thirty years and have seen and met many politicians. Jesse Jr. is one of them. I work in retail and handled a purchase for him of some electronic equipment for his home.

This was not not just a simple sale, it took several weeks and construction had to be done in order to complete the sale and the job.

During that time, I spoke to him numerous times by cell phone and in person. We spoke of other things besides business like family and religion. He seemed to me to be a very genuine and honest person. I got to ask him questions many voters would love to ask someone they would be casting a vote for.

I will not condemn someone before all the facts come out unlike many far-left liberals and far-right conservatives, but if he is found out to be guilty of bribing Governor Blago, I might as well just close my eyes and push any button the next time I vote because it really won't make any difference.

Update 2:32pm : Attorney for Jesse Jackson Jr. has made a statement saying he has spoke with U.S. Attorney Pat Fitzgerald and was told that Mr. Jackson is not a target of this investigation.

Update 3:40pm: Jesse Jackson Jr. gives a press conference to fight rumors that he might be involved in any corruption concerning Rod Blagoveich. I must say he gave a very emotional press conference. If he is guilty he sure did not at all seemed like he was hiding something:

Jindal: "Not Interested in Presidency"

A potential blow to the GOP hopes of rising back to glory, Bobby Jindal has indicated he has no interest in becoming president.

"No," Jindal said definitively when asked if he was interested in being president, according to The Associated Press.

Jindal made the comments at a Richmond, Virginia, news conference, during which he endorsed Bob McDonnell – a Republican running for governor of Virginia. Jindal said instead he has his sights set on seeking reelection to his current office in 2011.

Jindal, whom many Republicans view as best positioned to transform the party's image, did not rule out the possibility he may change his mind about a White House run.

Jindal ventured to Iowa last month for a set of appearances and fundraisers, a move that fueled speculation he was begining to lay groundwork in the crucial early presidential voting state.

Steve Chu Likely to be Named Energy Secretary

CNN is reporting that according to sources in the Obama camp that Steve Chu is likely to be named Secretary of Energy sometime next week. This would be new ground for Chu, who is not politically connected.

Many democratic insiders believe it would be hard for him to push through legislation with the oil companies and other entities because he would be new to politics and Washington.

Others that were rumored to be in consideration for the job are Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger and former Secretary of State Colin Powell.

Stroke of genius I call it. An employee from CITI group emailed my friends at AMERICAblog to inform them that CITI announced a couple of months ago that they were doing away with those expensive and cost burning Lollipops. Auto Bailout Packages has Crap in it

Why can't the taxpayers stop getting screwed. We don't want to see millions of people lose their jobs because of the economy, but ever time we bail someone out it always has some crap packaged in it.

The Associated Press is reporting that the current bailout deal that has been sent to the White House includes a raise for District court judges. The raise — labeled a cost of living adjustment — would bring U.S. District court judges up to par with members of Congress, who will receive an almost $5,000 boost on Jan. 1. District judges and lawmakers now earn $169,300 a year but are expected to be awarded a 2.8 percent raise next year.

What in the hell does a raise for some judges have to do with the big three?

Israel Opens Flow of Cash for Gaza Strip

|Associated Press Writer

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel agreed on Wednesday to allow the delivery of cash to banks in the Gaza Strip to ease a cash crunch that has badly hobbled the economy of the blockaded Palestinian territory.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak authorized the transfer of 100 million shekels ($25 million) to Hamas-controlled Gaza from Palestinian banks in the West Bank, his office said. The shekel is the territory's main currency, although Gazans also use U.S. dollars and Jordanian dinars.

Jihad al-Wazir, head of the Palestinian Monetary Authority, said the money shipment would help but added that Gazans needed a regular supply of cash. The Israeli approval "does not resolve the overall problem of regular inflow of liquidity," he said.

Palestinian monetary officials earlier said they needed an immediate infusion of 250 million shekels just to cover salaries of Gaza's government workers.

An Israeli military spokesman, Peter Lerner, said armored trucks would cross Israel from the West Bank to Gaza with the money. He said the transfer would be made by Sunday.

The Israeli statement said the transfer came in response to a request from Bank of Israel Governor Stanley Fischer and the moderate Palestinian prime minister, Salam Fayyad, whose West Bank-based government is holding peace talks with Israel.

Israel has not allowed money to enter Gaza since October, causing cash shortages in local banks. Last week, on what was meant to be pay day for tens of thousands of civil servants, many Gazans were unable to collect their pay because cash ran out.

The Gaza blockade was imposed by Israel and Egypt last year when the Islamic militants of Hamas seized power by violence, leaving Palestinian moderates in charge only of the West Bank. The sanctions were slightly loosened in June year when Israel and Hamas reached a cease-fire agreement, but Israel sealed the territory again when violence erupted in early November.

Muslim Obama to Use Middle Name at Inauguration

I knew it, that damn Muslim fooled us. I knew that those Mccain and Palin supporters were right in using that middle name of his. He wanted to wait till right before he is officially sworn in, (when it is too late of course) to use his middle name.

“I think the tradition is that they use all three names, and I will follow the tradition,” he said. “I’m not trying to make a statement one way or another. I’ll do what everybody else does,” Obama said.

What's next, we find out he is really Arab and White.

Nice try Mr. Barack HUSSEIN Obama, you almost fooled us. But I can guarantee that the American people will be watching you all the way.

Obama Calls For Governor to Resign

WASHINGTON (AP) — President-elect Barack Obama is calling for the Illinois governor to resign.

Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs says the president-elect agrees with other prominent politicians in Illinois and elsewhere that "under the current circumstances, it is difficult for the governor to effectively do his job and serve the people of Illinois."

Illinois Gov. Rod Blagovich was arrested Tuesday, accused of scheming to enrich himself by selling Obama's vacant Senate seat. The governor has authority to appoint the replacement.

In response to questions from The Associated Press, Gibbs said Obama believes the Illinois legislature should consider a special election to fill the seat. Gibbs says the hope is to put a process in place to select a new senator who will have the trust and confidence of the people of Illinois.

Harry Reid Defends 'Smelly' Remark

By ERICA WERNER | Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid defended himself Wednesday over a joking comment that tourists to the Capitol sometimes smell.

Turns out many people weren't amused.

The Nevada Democrat has been attacked on blogs, editorial pages and letters to the editor since his remark last week: "In the summertime, because of the high humidity and how hot it gets here, you could literally smell the tourists coming into the Capitol."

His comment came during the opening ceremony for the new Capitol Visitor Center.

In response, an offended letter-writer to Reid's hometown Las Vegas Review-Journal declared: "You, Sen. Reid, are the one who stinks."

Without directly apologizing, Reid sought to explain himself in his own letter to the Review-Journal on Wednesday.

"Much has been made of my comments at the opening of the Capitol Visitors Center," Reid wrote. "Anyone who took the time to watch my statement or read it in full knows the point I was making: I'm always pleased when the Capitol is filled with citizens eager to learn about our country's great history and the work we do in that historic building."

Reid, who's gearing up for re-election in 2010, did say as much in his full remarks at the visitors center opening. But he probably should have stopped there.

Indeed, he prefaced his digression on the malodorous tourists with the observation that: "My staff has always said don't say this, but I'm going to say it again, because it's so descriptive."

In his letter Wednesday, Reid wrote that with the new center offering an indoor refuge along with historical exhibits, "The days of freezing in the cold and sweating in Washington's humidity while waiting to enter the Capitol are over."

Back to Work for 'Back Alley' Rod

By MIKE ROBINSON
Associated Press Writer

CHICAGO (AP) - Illinois Gov. Rod Blagovich returned to work on Wednesday, a day after he was arrested and accused of scheming to enrich himself by selling President-elect Barack Obama's vacant Senate seat.

Blagojevich (bluh-GOY'-uh-vich) is out on bond and has denied any wrongdoing.

The governor left his home on Chicago's North Side early Wednesday and waved to the media before quickly getting into a dark SUV without talking to the reporters.

A short time later, Blagojevich's SUV arrived at his office.

"He is still the sitting governor of Illinois today, now, and that is not something we have any say in or control of," U.S. Attorney Patrick J. Fitzgerald said in unveiling corruption charges on Tuesday against the 52-year-old governor.

The governor's attorney, Sheldon Sorosky, said Tuesday he didn't know of any immediate plans for the governor to resign. Blagojevich believes he didn't do anything wrong and asks Illinois residents to have faith in him, Sorosky said.

"I suppose we will have to go to trial," he said.

Blagojevich could still appoint someone to fill Obama's seat despite the charges that he tried to barter it away for cash or a plum job in what Fitzgerald called "a political corruption crime spree."

But it would take a lot of nerve and Blagojevich would have to hurry because state lawmakers are racing to snatch away his power to appoint a new senator and put it in the hands of voters.

"No appointment by this governor, under these circumstances, could produce a credible replacement," U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin said Tuesday after the governor, a second-term Democrat, was arrested on charges of conspiring to commit fraud and soliciting bribery.

Until state lawmakers call a special election, though, Blagojevich still has the power to fill the Senate seat left vacant by President-elect Obama.

Obama was not accused of any wrongdoing.

"I had no contact with the governor or his office, and so we were not I was not aware of what was happening," Obama said. "And as I said, it's a sad day for Illinois. Beyond that, I don't think it's appropriate to comment."

Prosecutors stepped in and had the governor arrested because he was on "what can only be called a political corruption crime spree," Fitzgerald said.

Speaker Michael Madigan, D-Chicago, said he is prepared to call the Illinois House into session as early as Monday to set a special election to fill the seat. Illinois Senate President Emil Jones said he had something similar in mind.

In Washington, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., made it plain he didn't want to seat anyone under such a cloud, saying the charges "are appalling and represent as serious a breach of the public trust as I have ever heard."

Charged along with Blagojevich was his 46-year-old chief of staff, John Harris, who was accused of taking part in the schemes to enrich the governor.

The FBI said in court papers that Blagojevich was overheard conspiring to sell the Senate seat for campaign cash or lucrative jobs for himself or his wife, a real estate agent. He spoke of using the Senate appointment to land a job with a nonprofit foundation or a union-affiliated group, and even held out hope of getting named Obama's secretary of health and human services or an ambassador.

According to court papers, the governor tried to make it known through emissaries, including union officials and fundraisers, that the seat could be had for the right price. Blagojevich allegedly had a salary in mind—$250,000 to $300,000 a year—and spoke of collecting half-million and million-dollar political contributions.

"I've got this thing and it's (expletive) golden," prosecutors quoted Blagojevich as saying about the Senate appointment on federal bugs in his campaign office and wiretaps on his home telephone, "and I'm just not giving it up for (expletive) nothing. I'm not gonna do it."

Chicago FBI chief Robert Grant said even seasoned investigators were stunned by what they heard, particularly since the governor had known for at least three years that he was under investigation for alleged hiring fraud and clearly realized agents might be listening in.

Besides scheming to swap or sell the Senate seat, Blagojevich—a former congressman, state lawmaker and prosecutor—was accused of trying to strong-arm the Chicago Tribune into firing editorial writers who had called for his impeachment. He also was accused of using the governor's power over state business to raise campaign funds.

Nothing in the court papers suggested Obama had any part in the discussions about selling the Senate seat or even knew of them. In fact, Blagojevich was overheard complaining at one point that Obama's people are "not going to give me anything except appreciation." He added: "(Expletive) them."

Blagojevich was charged with two counts: conspiracy to commit fraud, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, and solicitation to commit bribery, which is punishable by up 10 years. He was released on his own recognizance following an afternoon hearing.

Blagojevich becomes the latest in a long line of Illinois governors to become engulfed in scandal. He was elected in 2002 as a reformer promising to clean up after Gov. George Ryan, who is serving six years in prison for graft. He was re-elected to another four-year term in 2006.

Long before Blagojevich faced criminal charges, his most vocal critics already discussed impeachment, citing a long list of potentially unconstitutional moves, slights to the General Assembly and ethics violations.

Impeachment is a two-step process. First, the Illinois House would consider whether there were grounds for impeachment, much like a grand jury deciding whether someone should be brought up on criminal charges. If a majority of the House voted yes, then the Senate would hold a trial.

It takes a two-thirds vote in the Senate to convict, and the only possible punishments are removal from office and disqualification from holding any other office.
